Adjustable coffee table with raised tops is often found in households with family members who like to play video games while sitting on the couch. The table lifts and draws the sitting person, moving the useful table surface to the closet closeness. The raised table will hold up to 30 pounds, depending on the hardware used, and some tops are adjustable so you can adjust the height of exactly what you need. An effective way to make your own lift coffee table is by converting a box style table.

Open the doors to the adjustable coffee table and remove any drawers. Look at the bottom of the tabletop to locate the tabletop fastener. Often a table will have angle blocking in the corners with screws through the blocks in the bottom of the top. Unscrew the fasteners. Lift off the desk. If the top is also glued, use a pry bar, screwdriver and filler to flap between the top and the sides and cut the glue. Slide the tools along the sides to slowly separate wood pieces. Remove the inside of all drawer boxes. Usually the box is a complete box and the box face is screwed to the box. Unscrew the box face from the box.
Unscrew the rails from the inside of the adjustable coffee table. Apply construction glue on the back of the box face and place the box face on the outside of the side of the coffee table to look out the box is still functional. Squeeze the face to the coffee table with wooden clips until the glue cures. Read the installation requirements for your lifting mechanism. Typically, the lifting mechanism attaches to the inner walls of the table or to horizontal framing is installed to support the mechanism. The mechanism will have two luminaires, but it can mount as one or two pieces.
